Category : Uncategorized

On Friday, Lamu Governor H.E Issa Timamy formalized a pivotal partnership by signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with North Coast Medical Training College. This collaboration will enable senior students from the college to undertake clinical attachments and mentorship programs at various hospitals within Lamu County, significantly helping to bridge the gap in human resources for basic healthcare tasks.

Governor Timamy applauded the agreement, emphasizing that this initiative will pave the way for Lamu hospitals to become teaching institutions, thereby elevating the quality of care and ensuring adherence to strict healthcare standards. As part of the arrangement, over 200 students will be assigned annually to hospitals across King Fahd, Mpeketoni, Mokowe, Faza, and Witu.

The Governor also highlighted the positive economic impact of the initiative, noting that the influx of students will contribute to the local economy through demand for accommodation, meals, and other essentials.

Lamu Health CECM Dr. Mbarak Bahjaj echoed the Governor’s sentiments, adding that the partnership will foster knowledge-sharing, as well as the exchange of medical supplies and equipment between the involved institutions, further benefiting Lamu’s healthcare system.

The signing ceremony was attended by key stakeholders including County Secretary Amb. Ali Abbas, Chief of Staff Mr. Abdulnasir Issa, Chief Officer Dr. Victor Tole, Ag. Director of Medical Services Dr. Abdulkadir Omar, and Head of Emergency Operations Center Iftikhar Majid. Representing North Coast Medical Training College were Dr. Julius Maina Nduru (Director), Dr. Reuben Waswa (Director), Dr. Marianne Darwinkel (Director), and Ms. Dorothy Tenai (Principal).
