North Coast Medical Training College (NCMTC), Machakos Campus, is one of the recently established branches of the institution. Since its opening, we have successfully enrolled our first cohort during the September intake. The programs offered include Perioperative Theatre Technology, Health Records, and Community Health, both at certificate and diploma levels. Learning commenced immediately after the intake period, marking the beginning of an exciting academic journey for our pioneer students.
The initial phase of training focused on the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) unit, encompassing both theoretical and practical components. To enhance the quality of training, we collaborated with ICT and E-learning trainers from the Kilifi Campus. Through this partnership, students were introduced to key institutional digital platforms such as the Learning Management System (Brightspace), the online library (BUKU), and the Student Management System (Mzizi). These systems are integral to learning at NCMTC, where all educational materials and academic activities are managed digitally.
To prepare students for their studies, we also introduced them to NCMTC’s learning cycles and foundational learning theories. Currently, we are handling the Environmental Literacy unit, with a specific focus on pollution and hazards. As part of this topic, we recently conducted a fieldwork activity within the school community, allowing students to apply classroom knowledge to real-life environmental observations.
In terms of discipline, the students have demonstrated commendable behavior, punctuality, and consistent class attendance. Teamwork has also flourished through group assignments and class discussions, reflecting a strong sense of collaboration and peer learning. The teaching methodologies adopted at NCMTC are competency-based and student-centered, ensuring a balance between theoretical knowledge, practical skills, clinical experience, and professional attitude.
The college management has been very supportive and readily available whenever assistance is required. We have also established a strong working relationship with the support staff, fostering teamwork and efficiency in supporting our students’ academic and personal development. Beyond academics, students actively participate in co-curricular activities held in the evenings, promoting holistic growth and social interaction.
Overall, the Machakos Campus team is dedicated and united in its mission to provide the best training and mentorship to our students. Together, we are building a strong foundation for excellence in medical and health sciences education
