Mazingira Day, also known as National Environment Day, is an important day celebrated across Kenya to raise awareness about the need to protect and conserve our environment. It serves as a reminder that a clean and healthy environment is essential for the well-being of all living things. On this day, individuals, institutions, and communities come together to take action — from tree planting to cleaning drives — to promote sustainability and environmental care.
This year, North Coast Medical Training College (NCMTC) proudly joined the rest of the nation in celebrating Mazingira Day with enthusiasm, teamwork, and a shared Commitment to environmental preservation. The event showcased various eco-friendly activities held at both the Machakos Campus and the Main Campus in Kilifi.
At the Machakos Campus, the day started with students and staff gathering early in the morning to plant trees around the college grounds. The activity was not only enjoyable but also educational, as participants learned the importance of trees in maintaining clean air, reducing erosion, and supporting biodiversity. The students took great pride in helping create a greener, cleaner learning environment.
Meanwhile, at the Main Campus in Kilifi, the celebration was equally inspiring. The campus was privileged to receive 30 tree seedlings donated by the government through Area Sub-Chief Amani Shehe. With excitement and teamwork, students and staff planted the trees around the institution, symbolizing growth, renewal, and the college’s commitment to sustainable development.
During the event, the Patron of the Environment Club expressed gratitude for the opportunity to be part of a national cause. “We thank the school administration for allowing us to participate in the National Environment Day. Planting trees and caring for our surroundings is not only an act of service but also a legacy for future generations,” the patron said.
The day concluded successfully with smiles, laughter, and a renewed sense of responsibility toward nature. Through such initiatives, NCMTC continues to encourage its students and staff to be ambassadors of environmental conservation — proving that every small action counts in protecting the planet.
Together, we can build a cleaner, greener, and healthier Environment.
