The Coastal Region Nursing Campus Convoy 2025 was successfully held on 11th July 2025 at North Coast Medical Training College (NCMTC), bringing together over 100 participants from various nursing institutions across the region. Organized under the joint leadership of North Coast MTC’s Nursing Club and Coastal Region KESNNUR, part of the National Nurses Association of Kenya (NNAK), the event combined intensive training sessions, mentorship, and a parallel blood donation drive — marking a day of both professional development and community impact

Themed “Our Nurses. Our Future. Caring for Nurses Strengthens the Economies,” the convoy focused on key areas in nursing including Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR), Primary Health Care (PHC), and Mental Health. The aim was to empower nursing students and novice nurses with practical knowledge, peer support, and leadership exposure.

Opening remarks were delivered by NCMTC Training Manager Mr. Kilian Mwadime and Liaison Officer Mr. Alex, setting the tone for the day’s activities by advising students to be open in networking and  passionate to their career .A keynote address from Hon. Chrispine Juma, Secretary General of KESNNUR-NNAK, underlined the importance of youth involvement in nursing leadership and professional growth within the association.

A special highlight was the presentation on the A Call to Nurse the World (ACNW) initiative by Samuel Githinji, which introduced attendees to international nursing career pathways, including NCLEX training and language certification programs. Another standout session was led by Javan Ochieng on how nurses can effectively design and implement community health projects.

The day’s core activity was the Breakaway Mentorship Sessions, held in three concurrent tracks:

Primary Health Care (PHC), facilitated by Sir Henry Akunda, provided training on community first aid, emergency reporting, and awareness campaigns.

Mental Health, led by Nurse Annette Etyang, focused on stress management strategies and workplace mental well-being.

SRHR, guided by Mr. Opiyo Michael and Nurse Henry Ogutu, emphasized youth-friendly reproductive health services, community sensitization, and safe abortion care practices.

In parallel, the Blood Donation Drive, coordinated by Mr. Stephen Nyundo in partnership with the Kenya Blood Transfusion and Transplant Services (Kilifi Satellite), collected 40 pints of blood. Donors received counseling, refreshments, and basic first aid care.

Participants expressed high appreciation for the hands-on structure of the event, with one attendee noting, “This wasn’t just another talk—it was an experience.

Despite logistical and time constraints, the event was praised for its rich content and strong facilitation. Recommendations for future editions include early planning, increased partnerships, and documentation of success stories for academic and policy sharing.

In closing, the organizers extend heartfelt thanks to all partners, facilitators, student leaders, and the host institution for making the Coastal Region Nursing Campus Convoy 2025 a resounding success.
