NCMTC HOSTS Eng. Millicent Alooh, HSC AMEK sec-general
For two days 28th and 29th September 2022 NCMTC played host to Eng. Millicent Alooh, HSC biomedical engineer and hon. Secretary general of the Association of Medical Engineering of Kenya (AMEK), alongside our key partner organization Comundo. The visit aimed to assess the status of BME & HSSM training.
For 3 years now NCMTC has been working to implement a practical-oriented BME program which admitted the pioneer cohort in September 2021 with HSSM already existing since 2018. The visit discussion was anchored on Eng. Alooh using her solid BME background and expertise on the existing training programs in BME and HSSM in Kenya, to evaluate how NCMTC has been able to put into perspective medical facilities and hospitals’ BME/HSSM needs including gaps and weaknesses, to design the two programs tailored to train graduates who will leverage the situation through creativity and innovation.
Comundo as an NCMTC partner aims to provide young people with better professional and social prospects by developing relevant skills through quality and inclusive education and training. This assessment visit will enable the joint forces to strengthen the BME and HSSM training programs by seconding necessary technical expertise to provide support for the design and implementation of the training programs to have more competent medical-technical staff available to maintain hospitals and medical equipment in Kenya
As AMEK council member, Eng. Alooh evaluated NCMTC capabilities in training future professional medical engineering technicians and technologists. She visited the training workshops and clinical engineering lab to assess the training facilities in place. She also had a session with the students and gave a speech, that left students inspired to pursue the profession.
Eng. Alooh met with NCMTC directors, college principal, training manager, quality assurance officer, comundo ICT/E-learning consultant, two Hanze University lecturers who are BME consultants under Nuffic project, BME/HSSM staff and students.
